How FSTP Works
The FSTP is tailored for skilled workers aspiring to attain permanent residency based on their qualifications in a specific skilled trade. Recognizing the importance of these roles, the Canadian government acknowledges the need to attract and retain skilled trade professionals.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Possess a minimum of 2 years of full-time or equivalent part-time work experience in a skilled trade within the preceding 5 years.
  • Hold a valid job offer for full-time employment spanning at least 1 year from up to two Canadian employers, or possess a certificate of qualification in the skilled trade issued by a Canadian authority.
  • Attain a minimum CLB level 5 in Speaking and Listening, and CLB level 4 in Reading and Writing in official languages.
  • Fulfill the job requirements outlined in the National Occupational Classification for the skilled trade, excluding the need for a certificate of qualification.
  • Demonstrate proficiency by showcasing skills and experience, along with a track record of performing essential occupational duties.

Key Considerations

  • A minimum of 67 points based on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) immigration selection factors is not mandatory for applicants.
  • While there is no education requirement for the Federal Skilled Trades Program, applicants can earn points in their Express Entry pool if they possess a Canadian educational background or an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign education.
  • Applicants must intend to reside outside the province of Quebec, as Quebec has its own distinct immigration system for selecting skilled workers.
